E.A.S. is an organization of foreign passport holders and their families residing or working in the Suzhou area who have joined together to maximize the opportunities and enjoyment of living in unique place like Suzhou. Joining together with others who have similar needs, experiences and interests creates a unique and special sub-community. The E.A.S community creates network for new and existing members alike to temporarily replace ones traditionally available in one’s home country. As well as creates opportunities for members to participate in social, cultural, sporting and educational activities more geared towards foreign interests that may not be otherwise found in Suzhou. Beyond the networking, social activities and outings, E.A.S. also gives back to the community in which we reside by spearheading charitable activities benefiting locals in our new home.
EAS is more than a welcome wagon. EAS provides a network of short and long time foreign residents to help newcomers get familiar with their new environment. EAS hosts newcomer events to introduce new Suzhou residents to people who have more experience with the city. As a new member you also receive materials to help navigate the local environment…everything from working with a taxi, house keeper (ayi) or finding childcare.
E.A.S. is more than an event planning organization. EAS coordinates activities for families and members of all ages. Routine weekly activities may include Mahjong Group or Chinese Painting, Crafting or Baby Play group. The weekly EAS luncheon is a great time for new and old members to join and visit throughout the year while providing an opportunity to learn about and try new restaurants throughout Suzhou.
Monthly Tours may include trips to local water towns and historical sites or sponsored bus trips into Shanghai or unique shopping destinations. Cultural experience and lectures are scheduled to help people learn about Suzhou, the surrounding area, China and Chinese culture. The Activities Team coordinates annual events such as the Family BBQ, Easter Brunch, Children’s Christmas Party and a Parent only Dinner Dance each year.
E.A.S. does more than fundraising. Charity is a large component of the EAS function. Providing a governing body to help coordinate and identify local need and charitable opportunity. Members actively volunteer their time at local facilities including several orphanages and schools. EAS host several events and projects annually to raise funds that are all kept in the Suzhou Area….supporting elementary and secondary scholarship programs and funding surgeries and health care for children who would otherwise not be eligible.
